This position will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation, instrumentation, and communication systems across the company's gas transmission, distribution, and metering network. This role involves hands-on engineering, system integration, network configuration, and ensuring the reliable operation of critical Automation and control infrastructure deployed throughout SSGC facilities.
Eligibility / Qualification Required:
Bachelors in Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics / Instrumentation or equivalent with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Candidates having experience within gas distribution, oil and gas, utilities, petrochemicals, or energy sectors will be preferred.
Job Description / Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, configuration, and implementation of automation and control solutions for SSGC's transmission, distribution, and industrial metering systems.
- Support the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), loop diagrams, control philosophies, and I/O documentation for gas handling and measurement facilities.
- Prepare and update User Requirement Specifications, control system design documents, and technical datasheets.
- Support the development, testing, and documentation of PLC, RTU, and HMI applications used in gas monitoring and control operations.
- Assist in developing system validation protocols, FAT, SAT, and internal testing procedures to ensure compliance and system reliability.
- Participate in the specification, evaluation, and procurement of field instruments, analyzers, PLCs/RTUs, communication hardware, and other automation equipment.
- Prepare and review electrical/control schematics, panel drawings, wiring schedules, and I/O lists.
- Assist in creating accurate scope of work and project documentation for internal use and contractor coordination.
- Support operations, installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of automation systems at SSGC sites.
- Assist in designing and maintaining Automation communication networks, including Ethernet, fiber optic, and wireless communication channels used for telemetry and real-time monitoring.
- Understand and work with major network topologies used in industrial and utility environments i.e., Star topology for centralized communication, Ring topology (RSTP/PRP/HSR) for redundancy and high availability, Linear bus topology for remote stations and RTU chaining.
- Assist in configuring and troubleshooting industrial switches, including Layer 2 managed switching.
- VLAN creation and segmentation, Redundancy protocols (RSTP, MRP, PRP), Port security and link monitoring.
- Support the deployment and maintenance of communication protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP, serial Modbus, IEC standards, DNP3, and OPC (DA & UA).
- Monitor communication health, polling performance, and ensure reliable connectivity between RTUs, PLCs, field instrumentation, and central SCADA servers.
- Assist in preparing network layouts, communication architecture drawings, and topology diagrams for communication and control systems.
- Understanding of:
- Field instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, level)
- PLC/RTU logic development Automation systems & industrial communication protocols
- Good knowledge of basic networking concepts, including IP addressing, switching, routing basics, network segmentation, and industrial communication standards.
- Strong teamwork and customer-handling abilities.
